Sleep Deprived but Getting it Done
So I thought that now would be a good time to check in while I have a temporary break in all things considered “work”. Hope everyone out there is doing A OK!
Personally I feel like I’m doing pretty good, but at the moment I am WAY sleep deprived. See - My design company was recently contracted out to do some work (which I may or may not be allowed to talk about) and long story short it’s done in Flash with a PHP and mySQL backend and it is taking me forever and a day to get it done.
Worse yet, I estimated that it would take me X hours to do, and it’s probably taking me 6X this far so I’m probably being grossly underpaid too. But at least I can chalk all this up to a great professional lesson right? (#):) And prior to last night, I was running on no sleep (I just stayed up the whole night) so I was more than a bit loopy.
Outside of That
Everything seems to be going smoothly enough. I have my health, should be moving into the new house soonage, and hopefully I’ll have some time soon to focus back on my company and getting new clients which if you couldn’t tell is really my main focus right now. Not trying to put down my blog or anything, but I think focusing on my my web business will be the way that I can leave the 9-5, and actually have the time to seriously blog like I was doing before. We’ll see. (#):)
And thanks to a little internal war at work, I’ve become a bit of an achievement whore lately which (if you’ve ever been there) is taking up quite a sizeable amount of time when I let it. Thankfully the one year old usually runs up to me and takes the controller out of my hand so he can play himself if he sees that Burnout is the game of the day. (#);)

Yup! I’m still doing A OK! What’s your design company’s portfolio? I’m just very curious. ;)

I hope you receive plenty of rest I definitely can relate to what you are going through. Your estimates will get better.
Of course, your business comes first. :-) Your personal blog should not be top priority, especially now. You know what some people might not understand that but that’s ok. You have goals, stay focused, and you will achieve them.

@Grace - Well it’s really not much and I wish you would’ve asked me this a week from now as I’ll be adding my second project there. But at least for now, just click the case study link at the top : Bethesda Web Design
@Opal - Thanks for the support Opal and I think you said that before and it kind of stuck with me. As much as it pains me, I am feeling pretty good that I’m “doing the right thing”. So hopefully it’ll all work out if I continue plugging away at it. (#):)

Still very nice, Bush! Do you RUN this company, or do you just work for it? :D

Hey Bush! Glad to see you’re back buddy, sounds like you have been CRAZY BUSY.

@Grace - At the moment, I could do both. I mean heck, I’m not at Opal levels yet, but yeah - I incorporated the company not too long ago, have business cards, have the 2nd version of the website up, etc etc. And I’m really hoping next month I can get back to attracting more clients now that it seems I’ll have my hosting costs covered for the rest of the year. (#):)
@Pete - Eh. It’s an odd busy. Up until recently, the busy has been mostly family time + 9-5 + commute. Now it’s most certainly this latest project. Here’s to hoping I can finally wrap it up today!

I’ll keep fingers, toes and everything else crossed that you do buddy.

Hey buddy! Nice to see you back! I’ve missed the Bush Mackel take on things as of late, and am glad to see what I see. :)
Shine on,
Aaron

@Pete - Ha ha
@Aaron - Thanks, I’m trying to get more consistent again. We’ll see how long I can keep it up for. (#):)
