All Wii Are is Dust in the Wind
Zuma, Burnout Revenge, Rock Band… THESE are games that I’m playing.
You know what I’m NOT playing? ANYTHING on the Wii!
One of the biggest questions I had when I first got a Wii was whether or not it would be a serious console for me, or turn into something more of a gimmick.
Now while I don’t exactly have an answer, I do know that I can’t remember the last time I played it.
I Close My Eyes…
I remember when I first got the Wii. It was sooooo cool. I could play Tennis, go Bowling, and all from the comfort of my bedroom. And add to that – I could immediately download new games from the net since the Wii automatically detected my Wireless network. I loved it. And my wife ACTUALLY loved it.
After that, it wasn’t too long before the Wii was all over the TV and Radio, heralded as the system that no one could get, and that could make you healthier for playing it.

Only For a Moment, Now the Moment’s Gone…
Now all my Wii does it sit in my TV stand collecting dust. Smash Bros doesn’t come out for another couple of days, I’ve played Zelda and Super Mario Galaxy, and well… What else is there to play? Looking at my current gaming situation, this is how I feel about the Wii…
- I’m not excited about anything coming out for the system.
- Great multiplayer games are being severely hampered by horrible online functionality
As far as the games go, I think I read somewhere that developers have a hard choice when it comes to the Wii… They can A) Take the time to develop and create games for the Wii that are freakin’ hard to transfer to other systems and cater to only a fraction of the gaming population or B) Take the time to develop a game that will be played by a huger portion of the gaming population and can much easily be transferred to other platforms.
And as far as online goes, I am still MYSTIFIED of just how bad the online experience of Wii and PS3 is when they could’ve just stolen all the ideas of Live. *shrugs*
So how about you kids? Still enjoying the Wii so long after you got it? Maybe it’d be different if my kid was old enough to play. *shrugs*

I still like my Wii for the tennis and baseball and bowling. I also had Raving Rabids which I enjoyed. There’s just something about shooting plungers at raving rabbits that is fun and can’t be found in other games. LOL. But I have to agree with you that there are no exciting games coming out for it that I know of and that makes me sad because I see this console as being one that could win a lot of women over (and we all know that women are big consumers) if they played their cards right. But I suppose it IS easier to just go make something that will cater to the already existing gaming population rather than grow a new larger population. Grr. Can you tell this irritates me?

That’s why I sold mine last year and don’t regret it. I’d rather have the money than something I will very occasionally use. I’d still love to play Mario Galaxy and Resident Evil – Umbrella Chronicles, but I have plenty of stuff on 360 and PS3 to play first.

Well if you want to sell it….lol holla at me! My wife and I really love it and wanted to get our hands on one soon.

Yes its a terrible system. Don’t get me wrong I didn’t expect much considering Nintendo has lost their stock with me a long time ago. They are lucky SNES was pretty much the pinnacle of gaming for me. Every other one of there consoles after that system has pretty much been a pity buy for me.

@Teeni – Very interesting and I think you hit on something there. I mean, I know the Wii is very popular on Japan, and if memory serves me correct, that’s where Nintendo makes all their skrilla anyway.
And yeah, I mean, if anyone stepped up and started a company catering towards women…I think the Wii would be a perfect platform to start with. But I think even though the industry is growing a bit older, it’s still pretty male centric behind the scenes.
@Pete – I thought about selling mine last XMas on eBay but it was too much trouble. Plus, there occasionally comes a game that I do want to play a la Smash Bros. Though I don’t know how fun it’s going to be when the online experience sucks and my friends don’t live close by.
@Andre – Wish you told me that earlier. I sold a Wii last Xmas for $600. Sorry dude!
@NoobTastic – A terrible system? Wow. That’s a harsh statement! Again, looking at things now, I think that the Wii just goes for the casual demo which we’re certainly not apart of anymore.

@Madhur – You’ll be surprised how sensitive the controls are for Tennis and Bowling. Have fun. Then get ranked. (#);D

I have hardly played it so when I do it’s awesome.
I love Golf the most. I did always think the the idea would wear off. Most of the reason in my mind is the graphics. If you could find a way to make assassins creed a Wii experience people may look up a little more!

@Forest – You know Forest, I’d agree with you on the graphics front but I think nowdays, the graphics that are available on ANY of the systems is plenty enough to tell stories and make games. Zelda for instance is on the Wii, looks beautiful, and never had me once saying, “Man that’d look better only if the Wii is a LITTLE more powerful.” Having said that though, I’ve never been WOWED by the Wii like I was when playing various 360 games like Gears of War. *shrugs*
