How Am I Doing?

Tag: Blogging, Site News, Web Dev/Site PromoBush Mackel @ 1:55 pm

No matter what I’m doing, be it personal or professional, I’ve always thought that occassionally asking “How Am I Doing” can’t be a bad thing.

And so I’m thinking that this is a pretty good time to do the same.

“Recently” with my blog, I have really been trying to provide blogging posts in the “morning” and video games in the “evening” with a sponsored post or review in the middle.

Now I’m wondering how it’s working out.

So Let Me Know!
Believe it or not, I actually care what you guys have to think! I mean, just as long as I’m talking about technology and blogging, I’m fine whatever the particulars are. And I hope this conversation of ours doesn’t just stop with topics necessarily. It could be talk about my design, sponsored posts, my replies to comments… It doesn’t matter. I just want to know!

If you need some help to get you thinking on the subject, here’s a little list…

  • Beginner’s - If you’re a beginner, what do you wish I talked about more? What could help you out the most?
  • Blogging Ethics – Should I talk about this more?
  • Contests – Do I have enough? Do I have too many? Do I have too few? Prizes you’d be interested in…
  • Design – Do you like my design? Do I have too much crap in my sidebar? Too many categories?
  • Money – Do I write too many sponsored posts? Could I write more? Would you like me to explore other ways to make money?
  • Content – Is my content something that actually interests you or do you come by because my personality invites you in? What do you want me to talk about more? What do you want me to talk about less? Any posts that I should add like “Wordless Wednesday’s”?
  • Personal – Do you want me to be more personal on here? Am I too personal for you already?

Thanks everyone and I hope you’ll help me make this place the best that I can!

Well, you already know my answer!
Hmm, well you talk about what a great cook you are post a photo now and again? ;-)
I think a person can write reviews in a way that won’t turn people off so I’m not going to stop coming here simply because you are writing more of them. They are great reviews. :-)

Great post. I haven’t asked this question in a while but I have done it in the past.

  2. Ad Tracker says:

You’re doing great. Write what you want, we can skip the stuff that doesn’t interest us.

I’m not a gamer so I just blow past that stuff. Same with most of the Paid Reviews. No big deal.

Nothing personal but who cares what your sidebar looks like? I’m here for the content. If I didn’t like it I would have dropped you from my reader already.

Stop worrying and do what you do best, write your blog.

And thank you for doing what you do :)

@Opal T – Hm. I’ll see what I can do on the cooking photos front. I think I’ll probably have an occasion to post w/ the holidays coming up! Thanks for the input. (#):)

@Ad Tracker – Well that was a very sweet comment. Very much appreciated. *thumbs up* And I’m glad my design hasn’t turned you off yet. So is there anything about my content that especially endears you to the site?

  4. Christine Senter says:

    Hey Bush,

I think you’re doing great, myself. I enjoy your blog because it is all sides of you. But, I’ll go through your list and tell you what I really think. LOL

I like your design. I’m not usually a fan of dark backgrounds, but I like the way your’s is done. By keeping the side links a darker color than the main part of your blog, it automatically draws my attention to the center of the page.

As someone who also writes sponsored posts, I have NO problem with your’s, but we’ve already had this conversation, so I’ll move on.

As far as your content, it’s one of the things that keeps me coming back. Like AdTracker, I’m not much into the whole video game thing, but I have a teenage son and Christmas is coming. By checking out your reviews, I know whether or not it’s something I’d be willing to get for him.

The rest of your content is a nice mixture of professional and personal. Some blogs are a little to stiff for my liking, but your’s is laid back and a great place to hang out. Kinda like a coffee shop where you can just sit back and read your favorite paper.

Ok, now that I’ve written a whole post myself, I think I’m done. You’re doing an awesome job, and I really enjoy stopping by.

I have to agree with AdTracker. I think it’s the combination of your personality and the content. You are doing good. We keep coming back!

  6. Bush Mackel says:

@Christine – Thanks for the thoughtful response! It’s cool to know that even though you aren’t much into video games, that you find some use with your son and XMas.

When I used to work at Best Buy, “back in the day”, my first day working was Black Friday. Boy was that crazy. But I had a really good time ’cause I had a chance to chat it up with parents about which system and games they should buy for their kids.

So that said, if there’s anything specific in regards to games and the holidays you would like to see, please let me know. Individual reviews, recommendations, choice of systems, whatever. Heck, even if you don’t say something I’ll probably put something together anyway!

@Teeni – Interesting. When you first started to stop over here, I wasn’t sure what really brought you. But I’m glad that I’m doing something right. But the offer still stands that if there’s anything particular you want to see, please let me know. (#):)

    You said,

“So is there anything about my content that especially endears you to the site?”

I like your writing style and personality. It doesn’t matter what you write about, your personality comes through. That makes your articles interesting. I value your opinion on whatever you may be writing about, even if it’s something I may not be that interested in. Sometimes I learn things.

That’s it, I’m not giving you any more compliments tonight ;)

  8. Brown Baron says:

I keep coming back because I have nowhere else to go lol.

Seriously though, you’re one of my favorite people because you have no pretenses. Like Opal, Teeni, Ad Tracker, and most of your regular visitors, you show who and what you are through your posts and that’s what I like.

In this day of multiple online personalities, it’s great to find a real person. I guess this means you’re stuck with me buddy haha.

  9. Bush Mackel says:

@Ad Tracker – Ha ha ha. Well I appreciate the thoughts and I’ll try to keep everything here very personable. *nod*

@Brown – “I keep coming back because I have nowhere else to go lol.” YOU BASTARD! Ha ha ha.

Interesting thought about multiple online personalities… Especially because I think that one of the reasons why I have my Da Mack Daddy blog is because I don’t think this blog holds all the different sides to me… But you know, thinking about it now I think you’re right because on HERE and on THERE my personality is the same, I just talk about different things. Hm.

Thanks for the input Brown and glad to have ya!

  10. CHESSNOID says:

    Hi BUsh,
I agree with Ad Tracker and the rest that you should just keep doing what you are doing. I think what sets your posts apart from the rest is your personality coming through. Keep it up.
    Cheers! ;)

  11. Bush Mackel says:

@CHESSNOID – Hey thanks man. The words are certainly appreciated!

  13. Pete says:

Hey Bush, I think you’re getting the content just right, varied and interesting. Personally I could do with less posts regarding revenue, just my personal 2 cents (or 1 UK pence hehe).

  14. Bush Mackel says:

@Pete – Hey Pete, I appreciate the comment. *nod* I think what I’m going to try and do to balance that out is talk more about web development, (the road that leads TO revenue). But I admit it seems that it has been a topic that has been dominating this site lately.

Oh, of course I’m going to do some more video game posts!!! Now whether or not I ever get to that 12 for 12 is another story…

  15. Forest Parks says:

I like this place a lot. I come here knowing whatever the subject that the content will be thoughtful.

I have also been asking myself this question recently, especially whist working out how many paid posts I should be doing and stuff like that.

I say keep up the good work and only change stuff you feel absolutely necessary

  16. ram says:

Hey same thoughts as Ad Tracker (comment 2)
May be you can change the theme with a lighter background, this is only minor thing. Keep up the good work

  17. Pete says:

12 of 12, you know you want to buddy! New theme looks great btw.
