More Host Problems

Tag: Site NewsBush Mackel @ 2:57 pm

Argh. I’m really sorry about my site being all over the place lately as far as being up, being down, being slow and everything else.

After going back and forth with my host for the past three weeks, they say they have finally identified the problem, some rogue on our VPS server that’s screwing things up for the rest of us.

Despite this “new discovery”, I have signed up for some space over at Lunar Pages. Even though it’s a tad more expensive than what I’m currently paying, I’ll gladly pay a tad more if I can get a lot of reliability.

What This Means for the Site
Hopefully all it will mean it better speed, responsiveness and uptime. What I’m really fearing is moving my blogs. It’s nothing I’ve ever looked into and I’m not looking forward to it with a great deal of optimism. I think I’ll probably move things over to the new server this weekend, so hopefully by Monday things will be “feeling” a lot better. Oh, and don’t think that in the interim I’m going to stop posting or anything! I’ve really started November well, and I certainly hope to continue into the later part of the month.

So once again, thanks for the patience everyone and if anyone wants to give some advice or drop a link to an article on how to move WordPress blogs to new servers, I know ONE guy who would be greatfull!

    Yo, Bush.

one question : is there something special about this wordpress, I mean like with fragile furniture or something ? :-P

database backup and saved as .txt or .sql
ftp wordpress files and folders from host to pc
    setting DB on new host
setting new DB on config file
creating new DB`s table useing the backup
    ftp files on new host
open a browser, typing new address and enjoying beers while waiting until domain is rooted to new host (which can take from hours to days)

    my 2 cents

    Ops !

“creating new DB`s table useing the backup
    ftp files on new host”

Sometime works so (worked for me) but sometime those 2 steps need to be in reverse order, mean :

ftp files on new host and perform a install
After success, drop DB tables and recreate them using DB backup

    ………….

That (up to now) is the hard way to do it. there is another easyer and very simple way : Go to actual host real location and take the server. take it to new host real location and connect it to net and energy ..
Yet even so, the last two lines in previous comment are stil valid ..

Bush, how much are you going to be paying? I told you I can hook you up on a great server for cheap.

  4. Bush Mackel says:

@Valentin – Ha ha. Funny and yet good comments. Thanks for the tips. I went through all the paces last night and it seems like all it takes is what you described. Thanks again!

@Casey – Honestly more than I want. I went back and looked at the post where I asking for hosts before since I remembered your offer. I think what I’m going to do (since it’s early in the month) is keep some stuff here, and move some stuff over and see how things are (being how my current “fixed” server is vs my new LP server).

Right now in at least the PLESK panel, LP is a lot faster. As far as resolving pages, LP is faster by a hair at a moment. But I think I would be good to monitor this over the course of weeks ’cause again, LP is maybe a little less than double what I’m paying now, and that’s not even for all the features I currently have. So *shrugs*

But in regards to your offer, I think I WILL shoot you an e-mail soon with what kind of stuff I need on the server and the like, to see what your friend can do for me.

Good lookin’ out for a fellow Skins fan!

Congrats on moving to LP. I use them but I’m going to have to upgrade my personal websites to one of their bigger plans. The plan I’m on is at the point where it cannot handle all that I’m doing. I guess I should be happy about that, right? ;-)
I was with another provider before LP the switch was painless.

@Opal – Hey thanks, I’m glad I waited ’till near the weekend though because waiting for propagation is like waiting for water to boil.
