XBLA – EXIT
After Halo 3 put through the game hammer on me, and before Guitar Hero 3 severely put me in my place, I downloaded a little Xbox Live Arcade game named EXIT.
I’m honestly not sure what prompted me to download this game but I have to admit, it might have more panache than any other XBLA game to date.
But is this a game that you should spend your hard earned points on?
What EXIT is All About
From the XBox website…
Meet Mr. ESC, otherwise known as Mr. Escape. Mr. ESC is an escape artist whose objective is to save people from disastrous situations, clearing each danger-filled stage within a limited amount of time. Save lives in EXIT®, a frantic, mind-stretching, action-packed puzzle game!
That’s a pretty good synopsis, but I know if you haven’t played the game, you may still be a bit confused.

Levels in this game are more like scenarios that you have to solve that always take place in a building. Your objective is to escape the building leading to safety all those that were trapped inside. Of course this is easier said than done as Mr. Esc is no Super Mario. That’s to say that he can’t jump 20 ft in the air, can’t survive a big drop without breaking his leg, and can’t walk through fire with only a scratch to show.
So to solve these clever puzzles you’re going to have to activate switches, slide down ropes, put out fires, and when the situation calls for it, ask people who you’re saving to lend you a hand.

I wish I had more of an artistic background so I could better explain to you how cool the presentation is in EXIT. All I can say is compared to just about all the games I’ve played lately, its just looks FRESH. All the colors of the game pop, transitions in between screens are fluid, dynamic and exciting and the overall graphics of the game are just SHARP.
Is This a Game For You?
Depends what kind of person you are. For most of you who like the relative fast pace of normal platformers (and most other games), you’re going to find yourself initially frusterated and bored. Mr. Esc moves very deliberately so he doesn’t change directions on a dime and won’t jump as immediately as you would want him too. Plus, when you push left or right, he doesn’t run. He walks. As you read this I’m sure you’re like, “And?…” But trust me, it takes some getting used to.

It looks very interesting. I will definitely be downloading it. Thank you for pointing it out. I would have passed it up for sure.

@Apexad – No problem. It’s what I do!

This was a PSP game before it hit XBLA so I guess the repetitive nature wouldn’t really matter for a few minutes of play on the bus or whatever. I may check this at some point, nice write-up buddy!

@Pete – “In my youth” I sold my PSP for rent money. Maybe I’ll buy one for XMas. … I need to buy so many things this year. “need” … I don’t think I use that word correctly when it applies to technology.
