Study of Blog Earnings Report September 2007 (MyBlogEarnings)
I’m almost embarrassed to post how much I made last month.
I’m not gonna lie.
But you know what?
No war was ever won in a day and no journey was ever completed with a single step. And with that said another month is behind me and I continue to battle on.
Now onto the good stuff!
| Revenue | Name | Alexa Rank | Page Rank | Revenue Source |
| $20,512.17 | John Chow | 2,377 | 5 | Private Ad Sales |
| $13,253.00 | Everton | 18,280 | 6 | AdSense |
| $220.26 | Alex “apexad” Martin | 304,640 | 4 | Pay Per Post |
| $196.00 | Madhur Kapoor | 117,046 | 4 | AdSense |
| $85.07+ | BeachBum Michael | 282,875 | 4 | Pay Per Post |
| $74.34 | Casey | 109,157 | 0 | Direct Ads |
| $34.16 | Bush Mackel | 112,079 | 1 | Review/Me |
| $1.36 | Dawn | 779,032 | 2 | AdSense |
| $1.06 | Forest Parks | 970,495 | 0 | AdSense |
If anyone is interested, here’s how my earnings shook out:
- $20.00 – Review/Me
- $10.00 – Blogvertise
- $4.16 – AdSense
*ugh* I hate looking at these crummy figures of mine. And I’ll tell you why. I think my blog is worth more than what it’s pulling in. By far. But then, that’s really an emotional statement based on how hard I think I work on it. … I could go on much longer on this tangent but perhaps I should save that for a post. (#):)
Anyone else care to share? If you are so nice to post your earnings and the rest, I’ll go ahead and update this post w/ your information (including a shiny new link for your site/post)!

I actually did fairly well last month mainly with affiliate marketing. I did a few reviews. I was doing well with Adsense at the beginning of August but I was testing so quite a few days I made only a dollar some days a lot less. I’m finished testing with adsense and my earnings are back to where they used to be. I should get a check next month.
I don’t know how many times I need to tell you to check out affiliate marketing before you actually go and do it.

@Opal T – “I don’t know how many times I need to tell you to check out affiliate marketing before you actually go and do it.
”
Oh…a few more times. (#):)
But seriously, I really aim to start using it but on my other website! I think even though I’m going to continue to develop this one, these other two websites are going to become my bread and butter as far as income is concerned. I dunno. We’ll see. (#):D

You’re going to love this post when you start making more buddy.
October 8th, 2007 at 3:59 pm
@Brown – You know, I’m not sure that I will. It’s funny. As competitive as a guy I am, I don’t feel any competition between me and any any of my fellow bloggers with revenue. And aside from that it’s just a fun game trying to make more money blogging. But I think the fun I derive is because it’s so challenging (esp with no PR update).
So when I have some PR and I’m making good money, I hope like some of the big wigs on there (namely Everton) it’ll just serve to motivate others. (#):)

Oh my god! My Pagerank dropped from a 5 to a 4. I am sad. (I did actually expect it though)
Anyway, this month as soon as I get my new theme up I am going to probably try some new programs. The one that puts ebay auctions on your site looks interesting to me.
October 8th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
I would really like to add my earnings to your monthly roundup if possible Mr Bush.
Sadly my earnings last month were actually $1.06 all fro Adsense.
I’m currently waiting for Pay Per Post approval and will try and open up some more streams.
October 8th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
Everton’s earnings posts are great. It helps me to stay focused on what I need to do.
October 8th, 2007 at 7:31 pm
@Apex – Fascinating. It sucks that your PR went down, but I’m sure it’s just a minor hiccup. Hey, and it looks like that update is slowly making its way through the net!
@Forest – I’ll add it in a jif! And BTW, PPP is probably my best stream right now (when I use it).
@Brown – Everton inspires A LOT of people. *nod*

Do you know a lot about celebrity gossip? How about video games?
All kidding aside, these are both great AdSense income generators. Most full time bloggers are making revenue with direct sells and advertisers because they are better.
For the rest of us that leaves the unpredictability of AdSense and other sources of revenue that are less reliable. My income varies greatly from month to month. I think last month I made about $200.00, but this month I’m already over $300.00 based on text links, referrals, and paid reviews. AdSense income is just a supplement, but can be good every once in a while.
Keep working at it and i’ll keep reading!
October 8th, 2007 at 9:20 pm
@Kyle – Hey, no disputes here over celebrity gossip and video games. (#):) I mean, truth be told – I think if I really wanted to be making a killing on this blog (in regards to AdSense), I would do a lot of things different starting with layout and working my way from there.
So hey man, if you make a post about your earnings, I’ll give ya a free link! (And if you don’t wanna do that, just give me an exact total and I will certainly add your total!)
October 8th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
@apex,
I also received a drop in PR. Vegan Momma is now a 3. I don’t follow my PR anymore but when I read your reply I checked mine out. It seems a lot of other bloggers have received a hit like Andy Beard, Paula Neal Mooney, John Chow, etc., Paula has a list of at least 30 on her website the list is long…
I’m not worried about it because I really don’t count on PR to make money online. That something I’ve said here a few times. My traffic has not decreased and I’m still getting paid via Adsense and affiliate marketing.
October 8th, 2007 at 9:42 pm
I forgot to add is what’s important is how I rank on certain terms and I do very well with that.
October 8th, 2007 at 10:09 pm
@Opal T – Great thoughts Opal. I think it’s so important for us n00b bloggers to really make sure we don’t get super caught up with PR. Of course a little PR is going to equate to probably at least $200 more a month with PPP and like sites, but if we continue to lose our heads about it, we’re certainly not going to be worrying about the bigger picture. *nod*

thanks for dropping by today! My totals from adsense for September…. $1.36 woohoo!
October 9th, 2007 at 6:13 am
They key for me was to focus on revenue that does focus on PR affiliate marketing is a great example or direct sales. I think I did two reviews last month none of them were from PPP but my affiliate sales was well over 1k. I’m doing something right, lol. I believe I’ll do better this month.
October 9th, 2007 at 7:33 am
@Dawn – No, thank YOU for dropping by today! (#);) Did you make anything else last month? Or was your income all from the AdSense?
@Opal T – No arguments here. (#):)
October 9th, 2007 at 9:57 am
I made around $200 from coding… I could make a lot more, but I’m lazy that way.
After I get me and my partners new hosting company up (soon), I should be making enough money to really work on my blog.
October 9th, 2007 at 10:04 am
@GM – Wish I got paid from coding. But I guess I do enough of it at my 9-5 right now. (#):)
October 9th, 2007 at 10:09 am
What languages do you code in?
I know PHP and VB.
October 9th, 2007 at 10:20 am
@Opal T – Right, as I mentioned I knew it was probably going to happen. It’s from a 5 to a 4, I can manage that. More than 1 spot would have meant something is drastically wrong, but 1 spot is as Bush Mackel put, a minor hiccup. It gives me motivation try and move it up again. It should not effect much as far as traffic is concerned.
The only thing for me is that it does limit PayPerPost. That being said though, there will still be plenty of opps for me to do, they just might be worth a little less.
October 9th, 2007 at 11:00 am
You dont need to feel embarrassed buddy . My earning was similar to yours around 3 months back and you have a new blog . All the best for the future .
October 9th, 2007 at 11:53 am
@GM – I promote myself as a Flash developer though you’d never know it through this site. (#):) So with that I do a lot of Actionscript,
with my blogs now I do a little PHP, and of course there’s the standard HTML/XHTML/CSS.
Also at work they’re trying to get me doing more so I’m writing something in Silverlight which uses XAML with a JavaScript backend *rolling eyes*. My last project was using .NET/C# stuff.
And I used to do a lot in DirectX in my game programming days.
@Apexad – It seems through PPP the magic numbers are PR 5/6 and AR < 10,000. If you can do that, you can make some NICE change.
@Madhur – Thanks for the encouragement Madhur! I’m feeling pretty good especially being as I haven’t had too much time lately to cultivate this little baby. (#):)
October 9th, 2007 at 4:30 pm
Thanks for the plug Bush. I’m surprised I made more money than you! You should definitely pay special attention to my blog this week and learn how to make real money with private/direct ad sales.
October 9th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
@Casey – Oh, I knew LAST month that you were going to be leaps and bounds ahead of me as soon as you put up the direct ad sales. Ha ha. Uh-oh, is there now a little competition between you and I? (#);D
October 11th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
Yup. Just adsense. I was wondering if placing them inside the posts would get a better click thru rate. It seems laughable right now… I only see 40 – 50 visitors a day so I don’t expect to make money. I run a horoscope directory that see’s 4000 – 5000 daily uniques and I can earn $200 – $300 from that site depending on the time of year.
I’m really green when it comes to blogging!!!!
October 11th, 2007 at 9:47 pm
@Dawn – I guess most ppl would say that placing them inside posts would get a better CTR, but maybe that’s just my experience. But yeah, 40-50 visitors/day probably isn’t enough to make a good return on AdSense. But if you’re getting that many uniques on your directory, hey – you’re doing something right.
And why do you say you’re green to blogging? Looks like you’re doing just fine to me. (#):)

Keep posting the monthly earning report.
June 17th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
Great post! Of all the startups/websites that use Google Adsense as their main revenue model (according to Bizak.com their earnings per visitor (EPV) is just $0.06. That’s not what they earn per click but rather based on the number of visitors they have. In order to make $1,000/month they need over 16,000 monthly visitors – not an easy feat. Better to monetize with services ($1.67 EPV) and/or subscriptions ($1.02 EPV).
Even with these poor earnings 22% of startups/websites rely on Adsense as their main revenue source. 17% services and 8% subscriptions. Source: Bizak.com

@Tom – Absolutely Tom, and that’s the fun of doing all this… Trying to figure out the numbers to make everything work. (#):)
