Sept 2007 Draws to a Close!
First and foremost, I gotta apologize about the trailing off on the posts these past couple of days.
I KNOW WHAT YOU’RE THINKING, but truth be told I lost my net connection the other day! And all the cable boxes outside look open, so I’m beginning to thing that either Comcast and Verizon are at war in my neighborhood, or somebody just decided to crack the boxes open.
But thankfully, the day this happened I bought Halo 3 so I guess things could be worse. (#);)
Que paso aqui?
Last month at this time I really wanted to change the tracking on my AdSense ads so I could come to some definitive conclusions on which ones are performing and which ones aren’t. Truth be told, I pretty much know which ones need to go (sidebar ad I’m lookin’ at you) but I think if I can get some super tracking on these ads I’ll be able to sleep a bit easier at night.
Another Contest?
Aside from the tracking on the AdSense ads, it has been a long while since I’ve done a contest on my site so I’m pretty sure I need to have one. And now that I think of it, I think I said I was going to have one this month.
*rolling eyes*
The last contest I had, Blog Party Contest Super Fantastico was a very sweet and innocent first contest for this site, but looking bad at it now I kind of disrespect it…
- For one the prizes were a little bit suspect and people didn’t even know what they were “competing” for. That will be changed. Hopefully I’ll have multiple prizes, they’ll be good, and people will consequently want them!
- For two, the contest didn’t do anything for my site. I didn’t market it well and even if I had, I didn’t set it up to get this site more links, more readers or anything like that. I will be making a change on that part too.
What else?
I’ve wanted to do some other changes to this site, especially on the design side, but I think with the things that I have coming up are enough to keep me content while I focus on some other projects I have going. … I will say that if I DO ever get around to changing the look of my site I think I may work to incorporate ad spots into the design a bit better a la Casey and John Chow.

Videos…
I thought I would be starting this on Vegan Momma, but I redid it since it will be interesting to see your new look.
What changes am I making?
I was weirded out about showing my daughter on video so I’m making my video debut on my ferret website. Eventually I’ll create a forum their also. Lots of people within the ferret community and I’ll be using that as a way to monetize the website.
I receive lot of emails from people looking for recommendations on ferret products so I recently put an “I recommend” Amazon widget. It’s been doing well. I should have done that a lot sooner. I’m also an affiliate at The ferret store. It’s a great store for ferret merchandise. I didn’t have adsense on that site but I put some on yesterday to see how that does.

Ah next month. Next month will have me adding more changes to my site design. AdSense performance improves every month so that’s a good thing. Still haven’t been accepted by TLA .. I think they only accept sites with at least a PR4, I’m not sure though.
I feel like I’m on the verge of something but I don’t what it is yet haha. Maybe I’m just hungry lol.

I’m so far past due for a redesign it’s not funny! I’ve got the layout drawn out, started putting some of the template together, but I keep getting caught up with assignments and work so it’s just not happening for me at the moment!

@Opal T – Video huh? I’ve though about doing that too, maybe once a month or so but I think at this point I hate hearing my voice too much to sit through the 5 minutes it would take to get it all done. (#);) Best of luck to you though!
I don’t know if you saw what Aaron did on his last Sunday link love post, but he got some audio into it. I really enjoyed it and adds a very personal touch to thinks.
@Brown – Looking forward to more design changes to your site. Out of curiosity, what exactly are you trying to accomplish? And let me know how TLA works out for you (if it does). I think I’ve been accepted in, but I’ve yet to have anyone buy an ad for my site. I make take a page out of Opal’s book and go back and edit the description of my sites in an attempt to make it more appealing.
@Swollen – I hear ya. I think I’ve been running into that problem a lot lately. I think what I’m going to have to do is next week or this weekend just roll up my sleeves and pound out a bunch of stuff that’s keeping me from doing all the OTHER stuff I’ve told myself I’m going to!

Design-wise, I’ll be adding a featured post and new sidebar elements. I’ll probably end up with a subtle magazine feel but with a predominant blog vibe. I think I just confused myself.

@Brown – I think I understand what you’re trying to go for, and it sounds like it’ll probably be something that’ll look pretty good when it’s all said and done. Looking fwd to it.

Actually, I think change is good. You could always rotate them or just change it up whenever. On my site, I have tiles at the top that allow users to change the wallpaper to his or her liking.

@CHESSNOID – You know, not many people know this, but on the top right side of my blog there are three little boxes that allow you to change the color and header for the blog. Yeah I know, who knew right!?

You have to have played the games to truly appreciate what the graphic represents. Many quarters were spent on that game many years ago by yours truly.
