1600 Xbox 360 Microsoft Points Scratched Away!
Always being on the lookout for a good deal, I jumped on an offer from Best Buy maybe a week ago.
The offer : Pre-Order Halo 3 and get 1600 Microsoft Points for $5.
Now these cards usually cost $20 so needless to say I was pretty excited about the deal.
However, looking back maybe I was a bit TOO excited.
Where’s a Penny When You Need One!?
I’m usually not one to regret my mistakes, but why oh why couldn’t I have found a penny before I found that pair of scissors! *sigh* I was so excited to redeem those points and unlock Pac-Man Championship Edition that before I knew it I had scratched off about 5 characters.

What Am I Going to Do?
I wish I could just return the card or exchange it, but it seems that (from stories on the net) that’s a dicey proposition. But, I might have a way out of this…kinda…There’s no way that I can let go of a card with 1600 pts and some of the characters I scratched away I can narrow to a couple. So what I think I’m going to do is make a program to determine all the possibilities for the code, print them out, and then try them all until I hit it.ONE by ONE.Wish me luck. (#):)

Bush, you crack me up. Good luck with the code cracking!
September 17th, 2007 at 5:39 pm
Dude,
I bet all you have to do is give Microsoft a call, explain your situation and I bet you another 1600 ponits they will credit your account
Goodluck.
September 17th, 2007 at 6:23 pm
As with what Dude said, I agree. It’s not like you can’t give them the numbers you can see, and you can even send them to your blog as proof!
September 17th, 2007 at 7:16 pm
That’s kind of funny.
I hope you figure it out!
September 17th, 2007 at 11:45 pm
@Chuck – Thanks, I’ll tell ya, so far it wasn’t so good. Ha
@2OLD2PWN – First off that’s an awesome name. Secondly, thanks for checking out my little site! Thirdly, I looked online a lot before I set off to “crack” the code and ppl say that M$ just doesn’t care. I think I’ll give them a call regardless though.
@Apex – Yeah, I think ppl have tried that too. I heard that Best Buy MAY take it back so maybe I can go that route.
@Opal T – I don’t know how many codes I’ve gone through, but so far I’ve been unsuccessful. I eased up my algorithm a bit but that increased the possible codes by a HUGE factor. And this is beyond Donald Trump “HUUUUGE” too. Like I was a little less than 25% through all the possible outcomes and it would be 119 pages printed out with a code per line at 12pt font. ARGH!!!
September 18th, 2007 at 12:43 pm
Scissors…really? Bush, Bush, hang your head in shame buddy! I hope you get it sorted out!
I managed to snag a preorder of the Legendary Edition of H3 last night, goodbye money!
September 18th, 2007 at 2:26 pm
Ha Ha,
Maybe you will end up stealing some other peoples points by accident with all the number combos!
September 18th, 2007 at 4:44 pm
Scissors are for cutting cards, not scraping them! Best wishes on recovering the code. Tee hee…
September 18th, 2007 at 9:53 pm
@Pete – I don’t even know what the devil is IN the “Legendary Edition”. Is that the one where you get the helmet?
@Forest – I thought about that. Ha ha. We’ll see. (#):D
@Beth – Thanks Beth and it’s good to see you! I hope everything is going well!
September 19th, 2007 at 7:33 am
That’s the one! The helmet edition with some other stuff, I dunno what, it just looked kinda cool
September 20th, 2007 at 5:23 am
I actually have not pre-ordered Halo 3 yet.
September 20th, 2007 at 9:21 am
@Pete – Well that just means we need to see a pic of you in the helmet on 10/12/07. Ha ha
@Apex – Are you planning to get it?
September 25th, 2007 at 7:00 am
[...] I pre-ordered Halo 3 to get 1600 Microsoft Points that I ended up scratching off, I probably won’t have the pleasure of enjoying Halo 3 with the rest of you guys [...]
November 12th, 2007 at 11:27 pm
This is somewhat a test of how you look at comments.
Firstly, I did get Halo 3, in fact, I waited in-line at a midnight launch to get it and upgrade my ‘normal’ edition to a limited edition one.
Did you ever get the 1600 Gamer Points?
November 13th, 2007 at 10:19 am
@Apexad – I never did. (#):( I kinda gave up on it but maybe over Winter I’ll go back to that little quest.
December 17th, 2007 at 7:59 pm
just to let you know you are not alone… my friend bought me a card for xmas and i scratched it off (with scissors) and it completly wiped out 7 digit
December 18th, 2007 at 5:32 pm
@Chris – Yeah man, how much does that blow? It’s still sitting on my desk making me depressed every time I look at it. (#)<:(
December 31st, 2007 at 3:41 am
Well guess how i find this page?, i just type on google how to fix my microsoft points scratched, cause thats just wat hapend, i buy them to buy the new halo 3 maps, and with the same scisors i open the box i scratch the back, im going to call xbox sup tomorrow morning, becuase right now i feel so sad, i could be playing right now!!!!.
January 4th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
Wow,
there’s alot of us isn’t there? I used a pocket when I couldn’t find a penny. Probably the first time in my life I didn’t have dozens in sight. Hey Bush, can you offer the number/letter pattern? I’m only missing about 3 digits on mine. Even then its 36 x 36 x 36 possible combos. If I just knew for certain if it was a letter or number, it would help.
January 5th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
@Hugo – Sorry to here that my man. Buck up! Things could be worse… Your XBox could get that red ring of death! ha ha
@Grenadapult – There sure are a lot of us. (#):) And thing I created wasn’t as much a number/letter pattern, but a generator of all the possible combinations after you put in the letters/numbers you know for certain. That way you an make sure you don’t miss anything. Anyway, if you want it – Shoot me an e-mail or something. (#):)
January 15th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
hey i do you have the generator
January 15th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
i meant do you have the generator cause the same problem hapend to me but i scratched 7 numbers
January 16th, 2008 at 11:59 am
@YMHD025 – Man, a lot of people have been asking about that lately. I really think I’m going to have to make a version for “commercial” use. Ha ha. I’ll get back to you soon!
January 16th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
oh how long will it take you to make
January 16th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
@YMHD025 – I don’t think too long, it’s just finding the time to actually get down to business. Tomorrow looks pretty open, so I’ll see what I can do then. (#):)
January 16th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
ok thanks
January 20th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
have you made the generator
January 21st, 2008 at 1:58 pm
@YMHD025 – Not yet quite finished, stay tuned true believer. (#):) In case you’re wondering, it’s taking a while ’cause for ONE I have a kid, and for two, I’m guessing you’re not a flash developer otherwise I could just give you the code and you could have at it.
January 21st, 2008 at 1:59 pm
+1
@YMHD025 – But since you’re not, I gotta make it so ANYONE can put in whatever they want and not just use the characters I’ve hardcoded in for myself. … I’m trying to do an O K job since a lot of people apparently have interest in it. But you DO have my apologies for taking a bit longer than I had wanted on this bad boy.
January 24th, 2008 at 4:44 am
Hey, i took the picture there, threw it on photoshop and enhanced the hell out of it in an attempt make the code more clear, and i came up with 6 possible combinations that i feel quite confident about, i cant test them myself, as my XBL account is canadian, and thats an american points card, so let me know if you would like to try the combination and i’ll email the codes to you or whatever, id just put them in this message, but then theres the chance of someone else seeing them and trying them.
January 24th, 2008 at 8:49 am
@Jordan – Hey thanks! I appreciate the leg work! I’ll shoot you an e-mail soon!
March 11th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
hey all u have to do is trace it over a paper like you copying a coin.. just put the card under a piece of paper and trace it with led.. you should be able to see it all the numbers..
March 11th, 2008 at 1:56 pm
call xbox live they will hepl
March 11th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
@Dmmmm – Say what? Ok. I’ll give it a try!
March 24th, 2008 at 5:02 pm
no….they don’t help at all. It’s pretty much a run around until you speak to someone higher up or does not have a thick accent
March 28th, 2008 at 8:19 am
@Angus – So I have to work my way up the chain huh? Maybe I’ll try again.
April 2nd, 2008 at 10:56 pm
oh my god… the same thing just happened to me, except unfortunately i scratched out about 80% of the numbers
they should put a warning on the box or something not to use scissors
i just called phone suppert and they said they couldn’t do anything
now i’m going to try an email thats has more of an explanation of how its their fault that they didnt warn me and that to keep me loyal they should send me some points, plus i can give them the serial number and proof of purchase and even a picture of the card
April 3rd, 2008 at 6:40 am
Yeah… scratched a few digits off a couple of points cards… made me want to kick myself, lol! I’d definately be interested in this generator that’s been mentioned. I may even be able to get away with just the code (I work with a few flash savvy people)

@Jory & Derek – One of these days I’ll get around to making it for “consumer” use. (#):)

April 6th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
@Ritchie – Thanks for the help and I’ll keep you in the loop with the generator!
April 6th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Hi Bush, could you ‘keep me in the loop’ also?
I’ve just fallen victim to this problem.
I kind of know some flash so maybe I could use the program without it being “consumerized” so to speak. My e-mail is davesweep@gmail.com either way. Thanks.
April 20th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Same thing happenned to me. It looks like theres just a few digits missing, but ive tried a lot of combos… Could i get a look at this “generator”? If not, i called xbox and he said that people at the store have to exchange it. If not, he said to call again lol.
April 29th, 2008 at 11:51 am
@Everyone – Yep. (#):)
May 4th, 2008 at 1:44 am

May 6th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
I would like the generator too if when you do finish it email me the link or the file to dillpickle.1994@gmail.com i had the same problem but it was about 4 numbers.
June 14th, 2008 at 1:09 am
Hey, the generator does sound cool, how’s it going?
June 19th, 2008 at 10:44 am
Hey there, reading this has been funny and interesting, and I hoped that by the time I got to the bottom, it would be done…sadly not
Email or MSN me at MARTINSTATIC@HOTMAIL.COM
For a chat about the whole thing
Good luck!
June 21st, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I JUST did the same bloody thing to a four-thousand point card. Used the scissors I had used to open the card itself, I came across this looking for a solution. Good luck to you sir.
August 6th, 2008 at 7:00 pm

December 31st, 2008 at 5:52 pm

March 30th, 2009 at 10:11 pm
@Al – That is what I have heard as well Al.
April 7th, 2009 at 3:45 pm
dude i numbered it down to 60 possibilities on my first glance… i could possibly make it more accurate but it would be a drag or i could be a dick and just say it on here but i wouldnt do that to your precious 5 dollar card
April 7th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
dude my appoligies, i have numbered it down to six possibilities lmao im terribly sorry but i couldnt help myself but ot actually crack this code LMAO dude you gotta hit me up this suspense is killing me and i would love to leave a way for you to contact me but ummm anyone could pass for you so ehhh either 1 your outta luck or 2 you leave a way to contact you either way ill probably get impatient and try these possiblities since it is only 6 and i could easily spend little time on it im sorry but this was fun
April 7th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
Hey, if you can crack it, it’s yours. (#):) Though be warned that someone posted yesterday that he already cracked it. The only reason why you don’t see that message was because he called me a “deick”. I swear, I just GIVE M$ points away and this is what I get…
