Need Something to Do?

Tag: Blogging, Web Dev/Site PromoBush Mackel @ 7:00 am

Not too long ago, I was sitting at my computer looking at my blogs and faced an unusual predicament.

I didn’t know what I should do!

The problem was that I had already written a post for the the next day, and my other blog was already “current” so I felt like I didn’t have anything to do!

Let me tell you: That’s a weird feeling. I mean, I’m ALWAYS doing something on one of my blogs!

So What’s a Blogger To Do?

  • Write posts for a rainy day - Even though I write posts in advance, (when I’m on my game), I hardly ever write posts for a rainy day. But I should start. These are posts that can be posted at any time when you run into a serious case of writers block or when you’re away on vacation. As a rule of thumb, they shouldn’t contain time relative info such as things in the news.
  • Tweak your layout - Add something new to your sidebars or optimize the stuff you already have. Try new ad positions to improve your CTR. What about getting to that header or favicon that you’ve been saying you were gonna get to months ago?
  • Scrutinize your stats - Taking the time to look at your stats can do wonders for your site especially if you haven’t done it in a while. Taking the time to look at your search engine traffic may inspire you to re-write or edit an old post to get you some more visitors. Or maybe there’s a site that is sending you ton of visitors you didn’t know about…And maybe you should send it some love.
  • Catch up on memes - I’ve been slacking on memes lately. I’m sorry. If you’re anything like me, sometimes you just need to take a day and catch up on all of them. Of course then when you do that ppl start hatin’ on you, but hey - “These are the breaks”. (#);D
  • Reach out to fellow bloggers - Meet a new friend, or reconnect with an old one. Don’t forget, relationships are what makes the blogosphere go ’round and make this thang called blogging worth doing!

I don’t blog unless I have something worthwhile to write about. Having posts “in the bank” would be a nice feeling, though!

  2. icedragon says:

Wow, that would be a weird feeling, you can always set up a new make money online blog ; )

  3. Bush Mackel says:

@Pete - Yeah, it helps for me because I always want to be churning out content. At least on this blog. My other one isn’t so lucky. (#):)

BTW, I think there are three Red Rants I haven’t listened to yet…UGH. What am I DOING?

@icedragon - Ha ha. Interesting thought. More interesting because I never REALLY thought of this site as a “make money online” blog. But you know, I guess that’s what it has been turning into lately. Well, that and more an emphasis on blogging tips.

But I think that’s just because since this is still a relatively new interest for me, I’m compelled to write about it. When and if I ever escape the 9-5, hopefully I’ll have time to find and develop more interests like tennis and house projects, so maybe then this site wil evolve to incoporate those interests as well. *shrugs*

When I find myself in this situation, I step away from the computer and relax for about 30 minutes, then I play with my 3 kids. Of course, I’m always thinking of stats no matter what I’m doing haha.

  5. Bush Mackel says:

@Brown - Play with the kids? Hmmmm. At this point, my kid’s idea of playing, is smiling before he vomits on you.

  6. Pete says:

Hah, Bush there will be TWO more this week as well! But I won’t be in the next couple or so because I have a lot of stuff coming up so you won’t need to bother with those, they’ll be rubbish without me! Hah, I wish :)

I write posts for the future all the time. My recent Keeley vs. Keira post was one I worked on for about 3 days. I also have a special post planned for September 26th on my blog.

  9. Bush Mackel says:

@Pete - Thanks for the heads up. No downloading of podcasts for me this week! j/k

@Shaun - Well done. I’m glad I took my own medicine this week. On Tuesday of this week I woke up at 3AM and decided to write some posts. Well at 7AM I lost internet connection and on Wed night I went up to Phili, thankfully again I had managed to write 3 posts, so I really just have to worry about one today before I can get back home. @Apex - Sept 26 eh? I wonder what it could be for. Hmmmmmmm…
