XBox 360 Price Drop and Crazy HDMI Premium News
Everyone was waiting for the big XBox 360 Price Drop and it’s finally here. From IGN…
Beginning August 8th, the ‘Premium’ system will retail for $349.99 (down from $399.99) and will still come complete with a headset, controller and 20GB hard drive. The XBox 360 core system, which is the system only, has dropped $20 itself — down to $279.99 from $299.99…gamers with extra money to spend can pick up the Elite version of the Xbox 360 for $449.99 (down thirty bucks from its original $479.99 pricing)…
Disappointment
Honestly, I’m a bit dissapointed. Sure it’s a little bit better, but the $30 price drop on the Elite makes me wanna ask, “Why’d you do it at all?” The $50 price drop on the Premium makes me feel content the more I think about it, but with the “bricking” possibility still very much out there I’m still finding myself reluctant to get one.
But wait – What’s this!?
HDMI CRAZINESS
My friend Steve passed along this great link which he found in the XBox forums…but now it isn’t showing up. Hmph. “That’s weird”. It showed a Premium or Core with that somebody got from a Target in HOTlanta with a HDMI port on it!!! And now those pics have apparently been taken down and the world is a buzz! Check out the original thread on the xbox forum here.
Rumors were already circling that the butt ugly Halo edition XBox would have HDMI on it but somebody apparently already got it on their box! Did someone at the XBox Product Plant let the proverbial cat out of the bag?!

Hmm sort of makes me think about selling my Xbox 360 and getting the premium? I think I’ll wait until after Christmas.

Hey Bush,
I still have a modded XBOX that I play many games from old systems on through the emulators.
But lately I’ve been getting in to newer games to waste my time so maybe I’ll pick one of these up after all.

@Opal – Well me and my friend Steve said that when one of us got the XBox, the other would follow suit. He picked his up yesterday and even though it indeed has the HDMI port, he’s not sure if it has the 65nm chip with 2 heatsinks (which should help the overheating problem a lot).
For myself, I’m a little married at the moment so I have to pull in some money from some slush funds I have going and then I’ll probably take the plunge. Thing is, I don’t even have a TV with HDMI on it right now!
@Scot – Now are you talkin’ the regular XBox? ‘Cause I swear M$ has stopped making new games for it…Everything is comin’ out on the 360!

The one thing I must say is do not worry about “bricking” when it comes to Xbox 360. Yeah it happens, it happened to me even. However, Microsoft has upped the warranty to 3 years, so with that being said it is completely covered if it does “brick”.

@Apexad – Yeah, that’s what I’m being told. But still, to be w/o your box for 3 weeks while it’s getting repaired? Ugh.

I absolutely knew they were going to drop the price on the thing right after I bought. I bought one last week and said to someone “I bet they drop the price on it now that I’ve bought it”. Grrr.
I got the cable as well that lets me hook the thing up to my widescreen LCD monitor. It looks rather sweet.

@Mike – DUDE! You gotta return it and get one at the lower price or get one with the HDMI (if you got a Premium). They’re all over the place now! PLUS, a friend tells me they may be selling a bunch on Sunday packaged with a Table Tennis game! (Table tennis…I know…but free is free). *nod*
