8 Random Facts About Bush Mackel

Tag: PersonalBush Mackel @ 7:00 pm

If you haven’t seen this baby making the rounds in the blogosphere, you must be living under a rock!

Well, a WHILE ago, I was tagged recently by Tim from Listikal.com! I’ve been a bit busy so I’m just getting around to this now but hopefully you guys will find a few of these facts a bit interesting. As I wrote them, I kinda wished it was 10 facts but hey, maybe next time I’ll write a book. ha ha

Then again, maybe you won’t. (#):)

  1. For the LONGEST time, I thought I wanted to be a video game programmer “when I grew up”. Someone in 7th grade told me I would never work in the video game industry but I proved her wrong when I landed a BETA testing gig at Bethesda Softworks some 8 years later or so. (#):)
  2. Amongst my friends, I’m the only one who has ever been engaged. I’m also the only one who has ever been married. AND I’m the only one with a kid.
  3. I have a black t-shirt which has now since faded gray. It’s my favorite shirt because it’s so ridiculously comfortable. Unfortunately, it is REALLY old and during a Karate class my instructor threw me and put a horrible tear in it right along the shoulder. Not being able to say goodbye, I tried to sew it up. It didn’t really work so it has fallen into disrepair. Despite this, the love for my shirt is still there. I call my shirt – Goldenboy.
  4. I LOVE video games. If I had more time, I would definitely play them more but that’s fine for now because as soon as I find myself with MORE time, I’ll have plenty of games to discover! And in case you’re wondering, I LOVE any game in the Street Fighter series where Ken is my favorite character and I love King and his insane throw combos in Tekken.
  5. My first car was a 1986 gray Volvo. It had 196K miles on it and if you opened the passenger door, it would literally fall off the car. And let me tell you from experience, if someone is reaching for the door and you say, “Don’t open that door!”, They will open the door.
  6. Up until 3rd grade, I was a straight A student while I attended private school. When I went to public school things went downhill fast and I put my parents through hell as I tried every creative way I could think of to try and get out of doing homework and projects.
  7. If I had to do something everyday for the rest of my life, I think I would be happy making a lasting impact on peoples’ lives. When I was a server in a past life, the entire kitchen staff were really hard working but didn’t know much English. With their work ethics and personality – Knowing English would have REALLY helped them all out. I would love to one day open up a place that taught English for free to anyone who wanted to learn.
  8. And finally, if I ever had to pick a place outside the states to live, it would be Germany. I don’t like to travel but things seemed to just be great in the countryside there. Plus, I like beer, pastries and sausage. (#):)

OH crap. So I have to tag people now? Um Pete, Mark and Casey…Tag! You’re it!

*EDIT – Peg is pinch hitting for Mark since he’s too popular for me. (#);D

Oh no you’re one of those weird nerd gamer freaks! (I couldn’t resist)
A martial arts dude I’ve studied Wing Chun King Fu and American Freestyle Karate. My daughter will be studying Wing Chung later this year.
It’s always great learning about your blogging buddies thanks for sharing.

  2. Opal: Vegan Momma says:

I love Bethesda! The Elder Scrolls is a great series. I wanted to take my mentees there perhaps this year. When you worked there did you get to meet the grand pooh bah aka Pete?

  3. Bush Mackel says:

@Opal – You know, usually I don’t care to participate in memes, but with all this “serious” blogging I’ve been doing lately, I haven’t had much of a chance to get me out there ya know? So I’m glad this post seems to be accomplishing that. (#):)

Yeah the martial arts are great, I’m so glad I was introduced to them as early as I was. I would’ve certainly been a less confident kid otherwise.

And yeah, my time at Bethesda Softworks was great. Most everyone couldn’t be nicer and they even have their own cafeteria! But it was a while since I worked there (but not too long since I did some testing on Shivering Isles) so I’m not sure that I know this Pete. There is this ONE guy I’m thinking of, but I’m not sure. (#):)

  4. Opal: Vegan Momma says:

You got to test Shivering Isles! Sweet! I’m really envious. Pete Hines he’s the Executive Producer at BethSoft. He drops by the Elder Scrolls forum quite often. I like that he takes time to talk to the “little people.” Todd Howard stops by the forums often as well.

I haven’t been on there in a few months. He was Morrowind’s Project Leader. I think Todd is working on Fallout 3.

I would love to be a tester how come that boat keeps passing ME by? ;-)

Occasionally I see them yapping about Beth’s upcoming games on various gaming websites like IGN and I think xbox live.

Of course I bought Shivering Isles the day it was released.

Wow! I’m a weird nerd gamer freak just like you err forget I wrote all that stuff ok? ;-)

  5. Opal: Vegan Momma says:

Oh yeah I knew about their cafeteria I told you I love Bethesda even though I’ve never stopped foot on the place it seemed like a nice place to work. They see to treat their employees well.

  6. Bush Mackel says:

@Opal – Ohhhhh Opal, you make me smile. I have to say, Shivering Isles was a blast to test. You can do so many different things in the that game, it really never got old.

And hey, maybe if this site starts making some money, I can treat myself to a 360. (#);D Then we’ll definitely go head to head on something!

  7. Joanne says:

For no.2, what’s the age range amongst you and your friends? or are you just jumping in too fast :D
Oh learning English for free, that’s for me, I’m not a native speaker and are learning, point out my mistake on my blog and email me privately ok? :)

  8. Brown Baron says:

Haha great list there buddy. Now about “making a lasting impact” .. does that include helping out shy people? Haha.

So you guys are nerd gamer freaks huh? Count my whole family in too hehe.

  9. Mark says:

Hey buddy, thanks for the tag, but two people just beat you to it. It’s on my other blog: Family WebWatch.

I have a shirt like that, too. Bought as a souvenir while I was visiting Chicago. It’s a bit tattered, was never really stylish, but comfy. My wife has asked me to get rid of it a few times, but I still hold on to it. :)

  10. Bush Mackel says:

@Joanne – Age range between my friends is mid twenties to EARLY “thirties” (#);) Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining or anything. In my case, I just got lucky and found a good girl early but it’s funny because a lot of them have been in relationships with the same person for years, and just the other day I forgot that one of my friends WASN’T married! I was like, “Why don’t you put her under your insurance? I put my wife under mine!! … Oh, ooops. Forgot. Sorry.” ha ha

And Joanne, your English looks fine! I’m understanding you quite well. (#):)

@Brown – I’m pretty sure when the kid gets older, he’ll be a closet nerd too. And if he’s anything like me when it comes to video games, my wife had better step up. (#):D

@Mark – Well I well have to check out your other site and see your responses. I didn’t know that was your site! I had been there a time or two before.

And I’m glad I’m not the only one with a Goldenboy. Why don’t the wives understand!?

  11. Opal: Vegan Momma says:

And hey, maybe if this site starts making some money, I can treat myself to a 360. (#);D Then we’ll definitely go head to head on something!

Mass Effect looks as if it will be sweet! I cannot wait for it to be released this December. I think you work together as a team in multiplayer I could be wrong, then again, if you’re like my brother it won’t matter. We were playing a multiplayer game he shot me down quickly. He was mad that I was killing more bad guys than he. Spoil Sport!

I was pregnant at the time. Ah yes my last hurrah as a hard core gamer. I think I knew it I would stay up well in the night playing, lol.

  12. Bush Mackel says:

@Opal – I’ve heard good things about Mass Effect, but I really haven’t seen too much of it. I’m definitely slacking with 360 news. *sigh* And nice job staying up playing games. I think if my wife was hip on the video game tip, she would’ve had a much easier time.

  13. Kyle Eslick says:

Only one thats married? I’m sure you do a lot to encourage your friends to get married? :)

  14. Bush Mackel says:

@Kyle – You sound like you know the deal huh? Well, amongst my friends I can be a bit of an instigator and I know that marriage and kids makes most of my friends uncomfortable so I slide in “Hey, you should get married” or “Hey, you should have a baby” when I can. (#):)

  15. Pete says:

Wow I never knew you worked for Bethesda Bush, PROPS! Aww man and now I’m tagged too. I’ll have to have a think about this one, I think I’ve done one of these before, hmmm.

  16. Bush Mackel says:

    @Pete – I know right? SURPRISE SURPRISE!

And about the meme, if you can dig out your last one, I’ll give you a pass. (#):)

  17. Danielle says:

My first car was a Volvo too!! Such dependable vehicles – if they stall you just turn up the idle and off they go! Mine was a 1979 Volvo sedan in burgundy. My second car was a 1980 Volvo station wagon in yellow. :)

And how do find time to play video games? I find blogging really gets in the way of doing that. What system do you use?

  18. Bush Mackel says:

@Danielle – Um, it’s not easy. Especially with the wife who doesn’t play video games. (Shel says she DOES play but only playing Mario Kart doesn’t cut it) But basically I’m playing the Wii’s Virtual Console pretty much all the time (when I get a second) and when I have more time (which will be never) I hope to go back to FFXII for PS2 and start Super Paper Mario which I just bought for the Wii!

And in regards to games and blogging…Lately I’ve been trying to get my posts out pretty “early” in the morning. Once you do that, it’s basically just responding to comments and e-mails which doesn’t take much time at all. (#):)

  19. Pete says:

Here we go Bush! I did one of these! A 5 things….from December last year.

  20. Bush Mackel says:

@Pete – *cough* shameless plug *cough* Ha ha. j/k Very interesting facts Mr. Pete. Can’t believe you don’t know how to swim! If I didn’t and my wife found out, she would stop what she was doing to teach me. (But she’s a bit of nut so this kind of action would be expected)
