Harry Potter and the Deathly Mob of Nerd Muggles
So as I said in a post or two ago, I was guilt tripped by my wife into waiting in line to get her a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I should first start this off by saying that I tried to read the first book and couldn’t get through it.
My wife on the other hand has read every book and listens to them on CD too. She’s a big fan. The wife has also taken me to all the movies and even while the first one was only “ok” in my eyes, the last couple have certainly been more than decent probably because of their darker tone. Why didn’t she go herself? I dunno. I’m really still trying to figure that one out. Maybe she’s just now realizing the power she has over me. Ok, enough with the back story.
…
I was in the middle of writing all the gory details but you know what? They’re just not that interesting. Here’s the brief recap…I went to Barnes and Nobles and there were probably about 1000 people, most of which were dressed up as wizards, demons, or some combination of the two. I took some pictures with my horrible camera phone and here they are.
The wristband the wife gave me was for #192. As I was trying to find my place in line, this rabid fan was quick to grab my hand and put me right in front of her. She was #193. In a related note, she told us that when are numbers were called (150-200), that we “HAD TO” scream as loud as we could. Of course I was only too happy to comply.
I saw this guy right before I actually purchased the book. I think he’s wondering how his plan to put on a cape, painted freckles and a red pom pom on his head didn’t land him a girlfriend…Or friends in general.
Of course, this event could not go quietly into the night. In this picture, it looks like Bill Nye the Science Guy put on a wizard’s hat and joined up with one of the forgotten czars of Russia. In Bill Nye’s defense, at least he wasn’t sporting a beard made out of cotton balls (saw like 5 of those), or engaged in a “wizard’s duel” (saw WAY too many of those too).

See you are a great husband. Stood in line and all for her. I couldn’t drag my husband anywhere near a book store much less convince him to stand in line for me..lol

@Sassy – Well she better make me a cake or something if she wants this kind of service again. (#);)

What kind of scream did you do? Was it a happy scream, or a battle cry haha

@Brown – If you’ve ever seen Face/Off, it was kind of like when John Travolta’s character was had Nic Cage’s face and he was in the prison during the riot…For a second I was crying but then I pulled it together into some sort of weird maniac scream!

Wow. We ordered it on Amazon last January, got free shipping and it arrived Saturday afternoon, same day as the release. My wife had it done by mid-day Sunday.
I watch the movies but haven’t read any of the books yet. I do read, just haven’t read HP yet. Maybe soon.

@Kyle – You and I are in the same boat with the wives it seems. (#):) But hey, a lot of people say the books are good maybe we’ll tackle them one day. *nod*

Bush you’re a trooper sir!
I’m listening to the audiobook in the car right now (well not RIGHT now!) for my daily two hours so that should keep me going for ten days or so.

@Pete – I think you’re showing a lot of restraint. The wife has it on her iPod which is in her ears oh….18 hours of the day.

If only I’d recounted to you my story of getting the last book in more detail, you could have swung by that same CVS at midnight and been out in 5 minutes without seeing any nerds in the immediate vicinity. Happy Monday!

@Peg – Well, I SHOULD’VE done is stayed at the bar where I was and continued to get beers with my friend. *sigh* BTW, I’m glad to see that you’ve finally included your blog’s URL in your comments!

@Apex – Good to hear from ya buddy! (Nice job on the new pics on your site too as I commented). Yeah, I’m listening to my first audio book now…It’s weird and foreign to me. (#):)
