Yes you've got it they're both important.

I'm struggling with my website (responses) and receive, on average, about thirty emails from Vegan Momma per day. There not spam. I think I average about twenty responses (total) to the posts I write. This isn't my job. I just love the interaction.

Can you imagine what his inbox must look like? I'm having flashbacks of how my email looked when I worked outside the home. Yikes!

@Opal - So you think that his engaging nature is slightly more important than the topics he writes about? I know what you're saying isn't as plain as that, I think what you're going for is that he has a good mix of both, and I'll definitely buy that.

I don't think you necessarily need to stay on topic to gain regular readers as I've matured as a blogger I've realized that I can cover everything I'm interested in not everyone will be interested in every single post I do, but I have a pleasant variety of subjects that the site is appealing to many.

One of the reason that Darren Rowse website is so popular is that he provided excellent content and he regularly engages the reader which is as important. That's very important people like to know that when other's like something they do. That's something I've always incorporated into Vegan Momma (recognizing my readers.)

I try to write a post that can help others a few times each week it's one of the ways I give back to my readers.

I do know Christy's blog, and I agree with you, she does a great job. And I agree with your other points too and I'm glad you understand what I'm saying. I guess, (in taking a step back), if you look at problogger.net, I think he really does stay on A TOPIC ya know? And in the sense of gaining regular readers, I wonder if that's what you gotta do.

Irregardless, I'm still gonna write what's on my mind. Hence the "I Hate Presents From Cats" post. (#):)

Hey there, Bush. We're both going down the same path and I think that's a good thing. :)

I know we read so many places that one should focus their blog on their niche. While there is some validity to that, I just have so much more to say. I'm making my niche about more than one thing: technology, politics, injustice, humor, etc.

Take Christy's blog for example (I think you know her blog, right?). She writes on a variety of topics (and does them well, I might add). The fact that she's writing about so many things, doesn't seem to be negatively impacting her at all. Her authority certainly is a lot great than mine and I'm sure she's profiting well from her reviews.

I just have to believe that there are those of us out there in the blogosphere that like a variety of things. And if we find it all in one place, then nothing wrong with that, right?
