What System Would You Buy?
Everyone knows (or should know) that as far as “next gen systems” are concerned, I’m the proud owner of one of them – The Nintendo Wii. If you didn’t know that, you probably would’ve guessed as much because if I’m ever talking about video games on here, it’s usually about the Wii. But I digress.
If you had $600 to throw away, what system would you get?
- The Wii -$250,
- The Xbox 360 – $400
- The PS3 – $600
And everyone knows what every system has so I won’t bother going into that, but what system would you buy and why? -Knowing now how everything has shaken out so far in this video game land. Personally, I would get a 360 because the catalog of games is strong, it’s online play is great, and it has decent support of home theater related topics (1080i, HD-DVD etc). Plus, I know that it’s easier to convince the wife to let me spend $250 on a system after I already bought a system than >= $400 too, (which is presently the case). But hey, that’s me.
What about you?

Well, it’s also equally obvious that I’ve got a 360 already. I guess I bought it because of the game library and the fact that it was backwards compatible with the Xbox games I already had. I bought original Xbox because it could be hacked so easily.

I forgot about the hackability angle. So you’d stick with your decision now?

Yeah, hack-ability is big for me. Not just for the obvious reason of piracy either. I tried Linux on my orignal Xbox and had homebrew games as well as an n64 and snes emulator.
Nevertheless, I did wait to buy an Xbox 360 until I had heard you could hack it too. When my warranty expires, I may hack my Xbox 360 as well.

So Apex, on that note – I’m going on “vacation” here pretty soon and my brother-in-law’s friend Pete e-mails me about bringing down the Wii. He originally asked if I could bring mine down because it’s gonna be a pain for him to go through the airport with his, but then he found out that mine wasn’t hacked. Ha ha.

I would definitely get the Xbox 360. The library is strong and they’re getting more titles that I like. There are a few games that weren’t backwards compatible, bah!

I would definately go for XBOX 360 but i would love to try the Wii too.

As you know bud I’ve got all three and I would say RIGHT NOW I like the 360 the most, only because it has the biggest library of games that I personally want to play.
The PS3 is a great machine but it needs some great new titles, and there are plenty yet to come. Wii…party machine.

@Opal and Madhur – Yeah, the whole LIBRARY thing is a good selling point for the 360 huh? I mean, I only have one game for the Wii right now…Even though there are more games I want, I can’t justify $50 for them.
@Pete – I wonder if (and when) the PS3 finally gets its library, if it will be able to compete with the 360? My vote is still no because it’s online network doesn’t match up to M$’s. (BTW, glad to see you “out and about” after your podcast scandal. HA HA!)

I’m not gaming freak, but still I wanted to give Wii a try!

@Benedict – If you’re not a “gaming freak”, you’d love the Wii! It really bridges “that gap” which is why it’s so insanely popular with um…EVERYONE!
